Alice in Wonderland

Author: Charles Lutwidge Dodgson

Year: 1865

Type: fantasy

Personal Reflection:

Alice in wonderland is one of my favorite story in my childhood. Alice was adventurous and curious. She liked to say something interesting and childlike. However, she sometimes said something mature beyond her age. She was only 7 years old, but in the book I could find out she was actually more mature than other characters which represented the adults. These characters liked to say something unreasonable or irresponsible. They didn’t like to talk clearly. Just like some adults. When I was young, some adults liked to ignore my opinions only because I was a child. They thought it was not necessary to say more to me. I could be in Alice’s shoes and feel what she thought. Therefore, when she gave some “feedbacks” to others, I felt very interesting and happy. Because she was more reasonable than those “adults.”

Analysis:

I can say Charles Lutwidge Dodgson is a skillful detective and good at hiding some hints. He wrote a lot of thing you must think when reading. You can find out some characters have their own meaning and why they exist. For example, the pokers in the book. Alice is a rare female main character at that time. This is also a main reason why I like this story. Lots of books tend to use male main character in their stories instead of female one. But Alice in wonderland only has female main character. She was curious and adventurous. She could do lots of things. In my opinion, this is a symbolic book to talk about female’s power.

Alice in wonderland also has lots of symbol to describe the situation in Victoria’s time. Some is ironic, and some is a warning to tell us what we should learn and use the right way in our lives. As far as I am concerned, the book is not only a children’s novel, but a lecture book for everyone. All of people must be able to taste this special and significant work.
